Argentina's Longest Passenger Train

The Retiro–Rosario route has become Argentina's longest passenger train service after other longer routes were interrupted. The train operates daily, offering comfort and an affordable price for travel between two key cities in the country.

However, these journeys are currently interrupted. For this reason, the Retiro–Rosario service today stands as the longest passenger railway route still operating regularly in Argentina, combining duration, daily frequency, and an affordable cost compared to other alternatives. In the opposite direction, the service departs from Rosario Norte at 4:48 and arrives at Retiro at 12:22. Along the way, it stops at Campana, Zárate, Lima, Baradero, San Pedro, Gobernador Castro, Ramallo, San Nicolás, Empalme Villa Constitución, Arroyo Seco, and Rosario Sur before completing the journey. The service includes a dining car, air conditioning, restrooms, spaces for people with reduced mobility, and the option to travel with pets in specially designated areas. The fare between Retiro and Rosario Norte varies depending on the class and the time-of-day fare bracket.

Among the long-distance railway services currently operating in Argentina, the Buenos Aires–Rosario route is today the longest train journey that remains in regular service. Ticket sales are currently open for travel until May 4, 2026. Historically, there were railway routes longer than the Buenos Aires–Rosario segment, such as services to Córdoba, Tucumán, or Justo Daract in San Luis. The journey departs from Retiro station on the Mitre line and arrives at Rosario Norte in an estimated 7 hours and 34 minutes. In addition to its duration, another attractive feature is the price: a full fare between the two terminals costs less than $20,000 even in the highest available classes, making it one of the most economical options for traveling between two key cities in the country. The service operates every day, connecting the Buenos Aires metropolitan area with southern Santa Fe through several intermediate stations, maintaining an affordable alternative compared to the current cost of other medium and long-distance transportation methods. The train departs from Retiro Mitre station at 19:55 and arrives at Rosario Norte at 3:29. In Primera class, it costs between $11,700 and $13,000, while in Pullman class, it is approximately between $14,000 and $16,800. Furthermore, children between 3 and 12 years old pay 50% of the ticket value, children under 3 travel free of charge if they do not occupy a seat, and retirees or pensioners can access a 40% discount on long-distance services. Tickets must be purchased in advance, as they are not sold on the train.
